Raphael Mattos first started playing at the age of 8, right after his father took him to a Deep Purple concert in São Paulo. That was a crucial moment for him to turn into a rock fan and become fascinated by guitars.
Influenced by his uncle who gave him an old acoustic guitar with two strings missing, he started playing a few riffs and chords by ear. At the age of 13, his mother noticed his talent and gave him an electric guitar. From then on, he started studying on one of the best music schools in town where he graduated at the age of 17 in musical theory. After finishing his studies, he never stopped developing his songwriting and guitar playing.
Before deciding for the musical career, Raphael nearly became a professional soccer player, goalkeeping for the youth team of worldwide famous Santos FC. After a severe head trauma while playing and being in a coma for a day, his life changed completely making him go for good with his love for the music.
Talented guitarist, with a unique heavy punch, Raphael “Micheaut” Mattos has a very peculiar Rockstar-like attitude. Extremely determined, the young guitarist has been standing out in the scene

as one of the best Brazilian players for his one of a kind hability to extract from the heaviest, more aggressive and visceral riffs to the most beautiful melodies filled with soul. All this marks the musical personality of Raphael, making him a complete musician always searching for a modern sound, sensitive and trend-setting.
At the age of 24, Raphael just joined Shadowside. The recognition of his work together with Shadowside is taking his name higher and higher, quickly getting the deserved space and respect on the scene.
